James R. Murray

James Murray, CPA, CA, CISA, CIA, CGEIT, is a nationally recognized practitioner and speaker, with 25+ years experience in providing IT governance, risk and strategy services to private and public sector clients. As a subject matter expert on auditing 3rdParty Services, he has successfully guided both vendors and customers in mitigating and managing outsourcing risks. James is a member of the CPA Canada (formerly CICA) Service Organization Task Force that was responsible for drafting the former and current Canadian Service Organization audit standard, CICA Section 5970 and CSAE 3416 respectively.

In addition to being a Certified Information Systems Auditor, he is also a Chartered Professional Accountant, a Certified Internal Auditor, and is Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT. His thought leadership contributions have included speaking at national and regional internal audit and risk management events, as well as current and or past roles on the following professional committees and boards:

• Board of Directors, ISACA Atlantic
• Board of Directors, IIA Canada
• Board of Governors, IIA Maritimes
• 15 member CICA Information Technology Advisory Committee, responsible for providing advice and preparing guidance on information technology matters affecting the Canadian CPA/CA profession and business community.

As a former Partner and National Practice Leader at a leading Canadian accounting and business advisory firm, James also helped develop and implement proprietary IT governance, assurance and quality control methodologies that are now used in 130 countries across the globe.
